Mentors

South Kingstown CARES has a vibrant Mentoring Program. Teachers, principals and parents can recommend a student to the program. Students recommended are students that could benefit from a caring adult in their lives.

Mentors and mentees meet once a week on school grounds to simply "be friends." They play games, shoot hoops, hang out and share their lives. Throughout the year CARES sponsors group parties and other outings off campus to encourage the growing relationships. Helping the students with academics is encouraged over time, but not required. CARES also occasionally brings in speakers to the meetings to help the mentors with their students.

To become a mentor please complete the application and we will contact you to schedule the CARES required orientation.

Additionally, CARES Mentors are required to attend a Mentor training/workshop.

All CARES volunteers must submit to a police background check and provide personal references.

The mentor program is a wonderful positive experience and a much needed program.
