Classroom Volunteers

Parents, community members, retirees, university students, America Reads students are all encouraged to participate in the success of the students of South Kingstown by becoming a classroom volunteer. CARES responds to request from teachers to help in the classroom by placing volunteers. Volunteer usually are assigned to one or two teachers to spend a few hours a week in their classrooms. Volunteers are able to give students some individual attention in an otherwise busy classroom. Classroom volunteers truly make a difference!

To become a volunteer please complete the application and we will contact you to schedule the CARES required orientation.

All CARES volunteers must complete a police background check and offer personal references.

I have used CARES volunteers to work with children 1 on 1, usually in math or reading. The great thing about using CARES volunteers is that they give young children extra individual attention in a busy classroom. They listen to children read, or help them with their math work, or just lend a listening ear. As a second grade teacher, I find CARES volunteers a valuable asset.
